Knowledge Of Good And Evil

The piece "Knowledge of Good and Evil" was something my wife and I thought of late one night before going to sleep. We actually had a lot more ideas for it, which did not make it into the final product. By its title I’m hoping the content and meaning are obvious. It simply refers back to the two trees in the Garden of Eden and the choice between good and evil. One of my favorite films being The Fountain was the original inspiration. When I’m working on a piece I begin with a very rough draft of what I’m looking to create and allow the image to slowly come together. In this case I think I put too much thought into the image upfront and had high expectations thus produced in my opinion a mediocre result. However it still helps to keep the creative juices flowing. Oh and by the way; this was actually supposed to be two separate canvases that you would hang on the wall side by side. I also do not like the way the image suggested that women are associated with evil and men flapping their arms equal goodness…

really like the concept and picture, not sure about the white falling star, otherwise I would hang on my wall.

"Not sure about the white falling star"...I forgot to mention that. A comet in many religions represents warning. In this case a warning about “the Knowledge of Good and Evil” which was one of the trees in the Garden of Eden and the title of the piece. The other tree was the Tree of Life. Even though the tree of life is in the image the title does not mention it because it is not the focus of the work. Thus the comet is sounding an alarm about the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil from above of the Tree of Life. The funny thing is that why would knowing the difference between good and evil be a bad thing at all? I mean doesn’t that knowledge give us the ability to make a conscious choice between them? Interesting ponder, Anyway I love this topic so I wanted to put it in a piece of work for conversation and meditation. Thanks for the feedback Tony2fla.

Very colorful piece. Where my image is rather direct in its approach, yours take more time to soak it in. Beautiful piece.
