Description: I caught this Mallard in full flap. He was in the middle of the pond and stood up ontop the water, flapping his wings. It always amazes me how they are able to stand on the water like that.

That is truly an awesome picture!! Mallards sure are beautiful birds, and I have to admit that I have seen them stand on the water like that and flap their wings many times. However, I have never seen a still picture of one. Congratulations on the great pic.
How many pictures did you have to take to get the one, Lexi??

I've taken many over the last few months (trying to get that one shot). On that day I watched him for a few hours, then when he began his little ritual that he does before he stands up and flaps I positioned myself, waited until the right moment then took two shots. This picture is the second shot.

some times i wish i lived in the country instead of the heart of los angeles, so i could go hiking and shooting in the wilderness instead of my backyard or the zoo.
